Jennie Ottinger

Flirting with formula, Jennie Ottinger's ghost-portraits partake in a constantly shifting calculus with her variables themselves constantly in flux. Her subjects emerge from a medley of textual snippets, snatched from an intimate context and plunked into a hazy soup of possibilities. Repetition of similar templates accents the most slippery of nuances, erasing a notion of a faithful source in favor of a horizontal army of curious copycats. Caught between jejune scapegoats and grisly crooksters, Ottinger's band of outsiders skirts regularity and resolution, lingering in existential limbo.
